I have an older TV that does not have HDMI connections, so I have the component (red, blue, and green) cables running from my receiver to the TV.

Last Update: 05/12/2011

Is it possible to connect my blue ray player, cable box, etc. to the receiver via HDMI?

The HDMI inputs on the receiver will only output via HDMI out to the TV.  A/V receivers cannot convert HDMI inputs to component video output.

HDMI devices apply digital encryption called high definition content protection (HDCP) to copyrighted material being transferred via HDMI.  Analog component cables cannot carry the HDCP encryption layer.   Current HDMI standard forbids the conversion of HDMI to any other type of connection.
