The Yamaha sound bar features the latest Air Surround Extreme technologies which allow it to reproduce simulated 7.1 surround sound. It does not require a receiver to operate.
The sound bar has 2 Optical digital inputs and 1 Coaxial digital input.
So if your receiver has those types of outputs, it should work the same as your Blu-ray or Cable/Sat box would if connected. The only thing that needs to be verified is the audio video receiver’s ability to send out all signals via the Optical/Coaxial digital outputs. Most only send out signals from Optical/Coaxial digital sources and will not do HDMI or Analog sources.
