Reducing the "boominess" or low resonance on a bass drum
Taking the time to choose the right head and properly tune your drum is always the best way to get the pitch, resonance, muffling and response just right. Some
heads even have built-in dampening or muffling that’ll reduce the “boominess” of a drum. Remo's site has some great tips on tuning:
For a quick and dirty fix you can always put a blanket or pillow inside the bass drum. That will deaden it significantly. Experiment
with placement (middle, against the batter head, against the resonant head) for different effects.
