Classical Guitar Setup

The following numerical data is approximate as every guitar is different and every player is unique in their setup requirements. Flamenco players will require  less height from the fret to generate fret buzz that can be a part of that style.

1. Neck relief should be in the range of .003   to .010 above the fret to the bottom of the string as measured in the center of the neck . This is measure with a capo on the first fret and the strings depressed at the neck-body joint.

2. String height at the nut should be .052 on strings 1,2 ; .054 on strings 3,4 and .056 on strings 5.6 . This is measured from the fingerboard to the bottom of the tuned strings on the first fret.

3. String height at the 12th fret on the 6th string should be 5/32 from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string. The measurement for the 1st string should be 1/8 inch.  This is adjusted at the bridge saddle.  If you are not comfortable making these adjustments, please contact Yamaha so that we might help you find a qualified luthier to help with this adjustment.  In the USA our # is 714.522.9000.
