A wooden headjoint has a soft tone with rich resonance that doesn't sound too strong and blends well in an orchestra or a band. Wooden headjoints are most commonly found with a piccolo but are also available on some flutes.
A metal headjoint has a lip plate like a flute, which makes it easy to switch between flute and piccolo.
Yamaha wooden piccolo headjoints are available in two different embouchure hole designs - standard and wave-style. The wave-style headjoint, which is available for purchase as the headjoint only, also makes switching between flute and piccolo more of an easy transition because of a quick response to the air stream.
