What is the difference between the "inline" and "offset" key systems on a flute?

Last Update: 04/06/2013

A flute with inline keys means all of the keys that the player manipulates with their fingers are in a straight line. A flute with offset keys means the G key, operated by the left ring finger, is off center and not in line with other keys. This makes an instrument with an offset G key easier to operate for players with smaller hands.
