Is there any special care required for a oboe made with a Kingwood body?

Last Update: 09/03/2010

Kingwood is a type of wood that is softer and more likely to be affected by moisture than Grenadilla wood, so it does require additional care. Here are some tips for taking care of a Kingwood wood oboe. Be careful not to drop or bump the instrument. Frequently remove the moisture inside the instrument with a swab. Avoid rapid changes of temperature or humidity. Oboes with gold-plated keys require the same care as oboes with silver-plated keys; the same polishing cloth can be used in the same way with the same care.
